Course description

Place: Stockholm

Target group: Physical therapists and physical education teachers

Course instructor: Ulrika Myhr, specialist in pediatric physical therapy with over 30 years experience of working with children with DCD, author to the book ”Sitting children”.


Almost every class has a child with problems related to DCD. Children with DCD have motor difficulties that sometimes makes it is impossible to sit still and to stabilize the body, sometimes they are clumsy, afraid and need help to dare to participate in play and sports. The motor difficulties affect learning, everyday functions and the child's self-esteem. Children with DCD are often bullied.


This course gives you both theoretical and practical knowledge that will enable you to identify children with DCD. You also understand what motor skills a child normally is able to do at different ages and you get strategies to teach new skills. With knowledge you can make the children succeed, and enable them to have the desire and self-esteem to participate in sports and play

There is a great need to understand and be able to help children with DCD and give the children help early. This training is for those who work with children as a physical therapist or physical education teacher.

This course will teach you:

  • Basics of motor development and how they are affected by DCD

  • Symptoms of 2 different types of DCD

  • How do we improve motor skills in children with DCD?

  • Assessment and diagnosis Impact on everyday functions and learning

  • The school situation - being able to sit still, the need for movement, sports and crafts, grades

  • Participation in recreational activities - strategies for success

  • Influence on emotions and self-esteem

  • Prognosis for DCD
